My Story
Dayika is a 15 year old Gr 10 student. She is the youngest of triplets and was born prematurely at 28 weeks weighing only 780g. She spent the first 3 months of her life in the Neonatal ICU.
Dayika was born with both her hips and her left knee dislocated and has had numerous surgeries to enable her to walk. Her journey has been a difficult one both physically and mentally but her strength, perseverance and determination has helped her conquer the many challenges she has faced and continues to face.
She has struggled with depression and anxiety since the age of 10. Her dream has always been to remove the stigma from mental illness as well as to help others who struggle, both physically and mentally, gain the courage to feel good about themselves.
Dayika is passionate about writing and coding. She has completed a three year coding and app design qualification from TekkieUni. She is also a published author with her short story being selected for publication in the book ‘Africa, where the magic is’.
Mental Health Matters
What does mental health mean to me?
Mental health to me simply means health. Many people undermine mental health, but for those who are constantly sad or anxious, you need to seek help and that is what I did. Seeking help is a form of strength, not weakness. We are all fighting our different battles, but you don’t have to fight alone.
My Mission
Is to eradicate the stigma surrounding mental illness and offer support to those facing challenges, whether they are physical or mental. I want to empower them to discover their inner strength and show them how to embrace a positive self-image and well-being. So, let’s join hands and help each other grow!
